This week at Sprout English our focus is on the simple past. The lesson of the week is Eva from the Simple Past Stories section in the Library. This four-page lesson includes a reading and discussion questions that are available in both print and digital form. There are also two fun activities to practice past verbs, a word maze, and a crossword puzzle. Finally, students can practice writing and speaking by using past verbs to talk about clothes and fashion.
Since the reading can be done on paper or online, teachers can choose how to present it. Try assigning the online reading and comprehension questions for homework by creating students accounts (included in your subscription fee) and giving your students the login information. Imagine how much more excited students will be to do homework when they can do it online! They can even listen as they read, and their comprehension questions will be scored immediately after they complete them.
Sprout English has a lot of simple past resources, with over 20 simple past readings in our Library section (Simple Past Stories), simple past verb lists and spelling rules in our Library section (Lists, Tests, Charts, and Maps), over 75 simple past dialogues in our Conversation Station section, and 3 simple past grammar lessons in our Grammar School section (Basic Grammar Structures and Grammar Stories).
Don’t forget to check our Blog this week for grammar tips on presenting the simple past (by our editor, Tanya Trusler) and fun past activities to try with your students (by our writer, Tara Benwell).
