Welcome to Sprout English!

We’re so excited about the launch of Sprout English, a resource site for teachers and parents of young learners of English. Let us tell you a little bit about who we are and what we do!

Who Are We?

We are a part of Red River Press, a company dedicated to quality educational websites and apps. We used to be called English Avenue, but we’ve undergone a big transformation that includes a beautiful new website, and we are now Sprout English! We feel that there continues to be a lack of resources available for young learners of English, and it’s our mission to change that. We will do for teachers and parents of young English learners what ESL-Library has done for teachers of teens and adults, which is to provide a wealth of valuable resources to make teaching easier and learning fun!

Meet the team! Our wonderful team from ESL-Library has also been working hard on Sprout English for several months now. We’ve got yours truly (Tanya Trusler) managing the site and blogging, and a talented team including Ben Buckwold (founder of Sprout English / president of Red River Press), Tara Benwell (content developer), Nadine Lowes (office manager / content publisher), Billy Kiely (graphic designer), Katelin Dubois (illustrator), Piotr Raginiak (illustrator), and Marta Solodun (sales manager).

What Do We Do?

Our site has a huge variety of teaching materials for teachers and parents of children ages 6–12. Our goal is to improve kids’ English language skills with fun and interesting materials. We’ve got sections on phonics, stories (including audio and digital tasks), conversation exercises, grammar, vocabulary, activities, games, and fun facts. Everything you need and more is right here in one place! Ultimately, we want to make life a little easier for teachers and parents of young learners.

We also have a lot of ideas about the future of the site. We’re planning on continuously adding lessons on a variety of topics, blogging on useful teaching tips and grammar points, providing podcasts for more listening practice, and even branching out into video sometime soon. We are also dedicated to providing kids with more online content that they can access from computers and mobile devices. And we’d love your input! We’re open to suggestions for new lessons and ways to improve the site. Tell us what you need!

What Will Be on Our Blog?

Our goal is to make this blog a valuable resource in and of itself. I will be writing weekly articles about fun activities, teaching tips, and grammar advice. Tara Benwell will be writing a few articles a month, too, and she’s got as much teaching experience in the ESL field as I do (over 15 years!). We will also have guest bloggers from time to time, including experts in the ELT field.

This blog will also tell you about our Lesson of the Week, which will feature one of our fantastic lessons for you to try with your kids. I will also be scouring the Internet to bring you links to other interesting, useful articles I come across about teaching, education, and the English language. Check back often!
