Turn Off the TV – Dialogue

Turn Off the TV, in the Simple Past Dialogues 2 category of the Conversation Station, is Sprout English’s lesson of the week.

This one-page dialogue is the perfect way to review the simple present, present progressive, and simple past. All three tenses are used naturally in this conversation between a father and his daughter. The topic of a parent wanting a child to stop watching TV and go study is something kids can definitely relate to!

In this pair-work dialogue, students read through it once, and then they substitute some of the information (with the provided prompts) while they read through it a few more times (all out loud). Dialogues like this are a great way to practice intonation and pronunciation because of the repetition. You can choose to model the first read-through and/or have students present one of the versions to the class at the end. You could also finish by having them create and present their own version!
