Our School project has two activities to try. Choose either the Listen & Draw or Read & Draw activity depending on which skill you want to focus on. Or try them both on different days (but be aware that the instructions to follow are the same for both activities). If you want to focus on pronunciation, pair up students and have one student read out the instructions while the other draws, then switch roles.

This activity is great as a warm-up, filler, cool-down, or homework task. Follow up by having students color in the image and by trying related activities like Back to School – Find the Objects and A Day at School – Writing Activity.

Writing improves many aspects of English such as grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. With four questions to get them started, our updated lesson on My Favorite Animal is a great way to get kids writing!

Assign this worksheet in class or for homework. You may want to review the structure of a paragraph before you begin.

To incorporate other skills, you could put students into small groups after they’re done and have them read their paragraphs aloud. They can practice pronunciation while the others practice listening. Have the listeners each come up with one related question to encourage discussion!

For correction, try using our correction key to help students better understand their mistakes. Also, if you teach in Canada or a country that uses British English, point out the spelling difference (favorite > favourite).

Swimming is a popular activity for kids, especially in the summertime! Last week we featured a NEW vocabulary lesson called Swimming, which focuses on the actions that kids need to know when learning to swim or playing in the pool. It also includes the names of different swimming strokes. This week we’re featuring our NEW vocabulary lesson called Swimming Pool, which focuses on the objects kids will see at the pool such as lifeguard, slide, diving board, shallow end, etc.

Swimming Pool includes a picture dictionary, matchup, word choice, word search, word scramble, and spelling bee. There are also discussion questions so that your students can practice using the new vocabulary in context.

You’ll also find a set of flashcards at the end of this lesson that you can use for preview or review. Try 9 Ways to Use Cards & Flashcards in Class for activity ideas.

Nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs—English sentences are formed from various parts of speech. It might help young learners to think of parts of speech as building blocks for sentences. Our NEW Parts of Speech lesson breaks down each part of speech, describing the function and giving examples in a way that is easy to understand.

This comprehensive 14-page lesson has a variety of practice exercises and fun activities to help your young learners grasp the basic parts of speech. Depending on the level of your students, you may choose to do the entire lesson at once or introduce each part of speech on a different day. We’ve included a fun card activity, a board race, and a speaking task to keep your students engaged. A quiz at the end of the lesson will let you know if they need to follow up with related lessons in our Fun Grammar Lessons section.
